Jefferson Farms was founded in 1995. Our search for a home for both ourselves and my parents led us to a wonderful urban 5.5 acre property with A2 zoning and irrigation rights. We quickly built our home and remodeled a home for our parents. Jefferson Farms is a unique farm with a great location and spacious barns and pastures. Our journey here began with some hay production, which is unreasonable on such a small acreage, and then we raised 2 cows. Miss Biggie went to auction (to a good home, we hope!) and poor Shorty, who was a bit of a dwarf, went on to the butcher. Needless to say we had no desire to repeat this process! However, we soon found our calling raising alpacas for baby alpaca yarn and other products.

About the Alpacas
Fortunately my mom spotted the advertisement for alpacas and the rest, as they say, is history. Our herd quickly grew from 2 to over 40 alpacas, and we had great success in both the show ring and the sales arenas. My life was complete and under control, or so I thought! I visited our friends the Switzers of Estes Park and my heart was lost to the paco-vicuñas! It was at this point that we decided to add a second farm in Salida Colorado.  So between the 2 farms we have over 300 paco-vicuñas and 100 plus alpacas. We love to have visitors and to share our experiences with groups. At Jefferson Farms we place the emphasis on our ability to provide expert mentoring to new breeders and to share our more than 16 years of alpaca experience.

About the Paco-Vicuña Fiber
Our focus is in producing the highest quality fleeces and luxurious products, using livestock that require the minimum of intervention or care. We believe that the best long term business plan is to focus on top quality genetics and production of unrivaled fleeces and products. The ultimate health and security of the alpaca and PV industry depends upon developing a viable, profitable and reproduceable fiber market. We set our fiber production goals at 300 PVs, so we can combine the fleeces, using strict guidelines, which allows for a better economy of production expenses. It costs to start and stop the equipment, which then needs to be cleaned between batches, so processing individual fleeces or very small batches just isn't the smartest way to go.

Why Us?
So, after 19 years of experience with both alpacas, and Paco-Vicunas, 250 plus crias delivered, and managing two farms and the fiber production, it is safe to say "If it hasn't happened here, it probably hasn't happened yet!" Trust Jefferson Farms when you're looking for fleece or  paco-vicuñas for sale. Come share the lessons we have learned, the successes and the things we'd like to not repeat. We hope to visit with you all soon.
Take care, Jane and Arthur Levene
